WEFERLINGEN SUGAR FACTORY SIDING

The LWI Lappwaldbahn maintenance workshop, which was finished at the end of 2015, was set up in the area of the Weferlingen sugar factory train station, formally the operational centre of the previous Gardelegen-Haldensleben-Weferlinger Kleinbahn (GHWK). With the relocation to Weferlingen, the tasks of the previous workshop location were carried out in Oebisfelde. After the Weferlingen sugar factory was decommissioned at the end of 1991, the train station deteriorated noticeably, until only the through route track could be travelled on. As a result, the old two berth locomotive shed was torn down and workshop hall was built with three feeder tracks and all existing train station tracks were upgraded, to now be used as a storage sidings. The workshop siding is connected to the Weferlingen sugar factory train station by three points.
